Today's typical hair dryers bear little resemblance to yesterday's oversized helmets and bonnets with vacuum-hose attachments. Now, the handheld dryer is king, and some of the top names in the industry are Conair, Babyliss, Revlon, Andis styling tools and CHI. Along with sleeker versions of the salon hard-hat, consumers have the choice of ceramic dryers, diffuser dryers, folding travel models, volumizing dryers and combo units with styling brush or flat iron and dryer. Standard features include hot and cold settings, auto-off function and rotating cords, while styling attachments are an option. Wattage is a prime factor in determining the speed of drying, but in an age when impatience reigns, hair dryers are an essential part of the morning grooming ritual.
